This small town in the Karoo offers a variety of experiences
for visitors. Its biggest export product is undoubtedly
the wide open landscape for which the Northern Cape
is well-known. Here spectacular sunsets are a mere precursor
to the delights of a cloudless night sky bursting with
millions of stars accompanied by the odd planet and
galaxy or two thrown in for good measure.
Sutherland was founded in 1857 and named after the
Reverend Henry Sutherland and has many intact examples
of the Victorian building style sure to excite the interest
of people who appreciate all things architectural. Sutherland
falls under the Karoo Highland municipal area which
includes towns such as Williston and Fraserburg.
